The country has accumulated a significant amount of ash and slag waste, yet the level of its processing remains low.
Recycling ASW makes it possible to restore disturbed land, reduce negative environmental impacts, and return territories for economic use.
As of today, according to official data, Kazakhstan has very few enterprises engaged in ash recycling. There are no state programs or economic incentives to encourage recycling. Collection and logistics systems for the effective utilization of ash and slag are also absent.
By 2024, 227 power plants are operating in the country. Of these, 21 are large energy-producing organizations that use coal as their main fuel. These organizations operate 27 ash disposal sites covering an area of 18.2 thousand hectares. The total volume of ash dumps amounts to 8.23 billion m³.
